03.26.11: Baneberry Chili Run 5k

The second year for this race. Attendance was down a bit, probably due to the weather - sunny last year, cloudy, with a chance of rain this year (it also felt a little dreary, though it wasn't much if any colder than last time). At least there was a chili cook-off to help warm things up. There were ten entrants this year (more than last year if I recall correctly) and after the three official judges did their tasting everyone there, for $1, got to sample all of them. For an additional donation one could get a bowl of chili or a piece of homemade cake (and I can personally vouch that most of the entrants had good-great chili & the strawberry cake was great).

On the road, both races became a two-runner duel, as Max Paquette & Conner Hatfield duked it out until they hit some of the hills on the course, when Max managed to pull ahead and stayed out front for the win. On the women's side Andee "Punky" Swann and Cherie Kern were neck~n~neck most of the way, but like in the men's race, Andee was able to run a faster pace on the hills and held on to take the top spot. Andy Trotter & Nancy Hagood were the 3rd place finishers.
