10.21.10: Inter-Mountain Athletic Conference Championship Girls

After meeting me at the Morristown East High Invitational, the Cocke County coach asked me to come out for this one, and what a fun race it was. The course at the fairgrounds was wide open, allowing photography all over the place, and had some pretty neat features, highlighted by the runners having to run through two of the barns used by livestock during the county fair and wading/splashing through the creek separating the parking area from the fairgrounds themselves. The weather was nice and sunny without being too warm, and the Cocke County "Spirit Squad" came out the cheer the CCHS runners on and they even had a pep band in the grandstands (unfortunately the band left before I thought about getting a photo of them. I did, however, get the spirit squad). About the only real downsides were the times. I didn't keep track of the time so I left the creek way too early (worried it was later than it actually was), then, relying on previous times (when the course was too long; it had been corrected to a true 5k for this race), I stayed out on the course too long, with the result that I missed the winner. At least I got her at a few other points along the course.
