02.14.09: Straw Plains 10k, ½-Marathon
A race I look forward to every year, the Straw Plains race is one of those that starts later than most (9:00), is closer to my house than most (I live in Morristown), and is generally a lot of fun to shoot. For the second year in a row, race day has been overcast, but very little actual rain. A little chilly but at least for the runners, once they got started they stayed warm. The only real downside was the computer managing the chip-times downloaded an automatic update and re-started itself right before the gun sounded, with the result that a lot of runners didn't get chip-times. There was nothing wrong with the time clickers & stringers, so everyone got gun times instead.
In the mens 10k, Stewart Ellington won (his second consecutive KTC win & third overall this year), and Kelsey Armstrong won her third straight KTC race dating back to Autumnfest last year (she didn't run Calhouns). Team-wise, with six of the top eight Runners Market easily won the Open division, the new Foot RX / EBS (formerly EBS) team edged Runners Market in the Women's class, and All Kreatures won Corporate. In the ½-Marathon, Eric Grossman was the winner, with Emily Mack the victor in the women's race (there were no teams in the ½).
