07.03.09: Pilot Fireball 5k
The most frustrating race of my photography career. With the race starting about 5 minutes AFTER sunset, shooting the race with available light was a lost cause. And flash? It'd work ... if I had a battery & flash that could keep up. Which I don't (I'm not even sure if a flash tube that could fire 1000-1500 times in 45 minutes without burning out even exists). I basically quit shooting the race and just took to candids after the runners finished. After puzzling over how to get anough light for next time, I have something in mind, so getting decent-quality photos next year might be possible.
Taylor Little, Stuart Moran, & Daniel Amick were the top finishers in the men's race. Kelsey Armstrong continued to set the pace for women, winning at least her 10th race since last October, with Emily Chaney in second and Kristen Sorenson in third. Team-wise, FootRx/EBS won the Open (the top three finishers were FootRx/EBS), with Runner's Market in second. The reverse occured in the Women's class, with Runner's Market Ladies taking the top spot and FootRx/EBS Women in second. All Kreatures easily won Corporate, with TVA claiming second.
I apologize to any runners who didn't get photographed finishing - I simply underestimated how quickly the light would fade. Like I said earlier, I do have an idea for next year, so I hope to prevent a repeat of what happened this time.
