11.27.08: BlueCross Autumnfest 8k
I find this race most unusual, as many businesses are closed and Thanksgiving is normally thought of as a day to gather with friends & family and give thanks for the blessings of the year, yet 1000+ people came out to run, walk, & volunteer (self included) in this race. My biggest regret was that I had my own family gathering to attend and wasn't able to shoot the race as long as I'd have liked. Still most seemed to be having a good time and I guess there's not a much better way to take advantage of the blessing of good health than run or walk on Thanksgiving day.
This was the second race to use the KTC's new chip-timing system (Mill House was the first), to ensure the greatest accuracy for the results, especially in big races where people stack up at the finish line, waiting to give their bibs to the finish line crew, thus necessitating multiple chutes. The bibs & multiple chutes were still in use, as this was the first big (800+ runners) race with the chips, but that may change once the finish-line crews get more familiar with the chip system.
Andy Baksa won his fifth KTC race this year, and Kelsey Armstrong was the first female to cross the line. On the team front, Runner's Market won the open division, EBS Women won their race, and All Kreatures was tops in corporate.
