07.17.10: Panther Creek 10-Mile Challenge
One of the most grueling races East Tennessee has to offer. Race Director Michael deLisle started runners down the Ridge Crest trail almost to the lake, then right before the finish line they passed the highest point in the entire park. In between, according to one runner's GPS data, was almost ½-mile of up~n~down (2400-2500 feet). About the only way MD could make this any tougher would be to reverse the course for next year (then the runners would have to do the steepest-uphill-grade-in-the-entire-park Ridge Crest trail the HARD way instead of the easy way AND at the end instead of the beginning).
Adam Merook & Connor Hatfield were the first two, both finishing in under 1:20. Meriberto Torres was third. The women's race had a familiar face out front - trail ace Laura Gearhiser. Leslie Hansen & Leah Jones were 2-3. Like all TTT races, there were no teams.
